We are a queer interracial couple in our early 30s. We live in Seattle, WA and plan to raise our family here. We both grew up in California, where most of our families of origin continue to reside. One of us has family in the East Bay Area, and the other has family in North County, San Diego, CA. One of us is Asian American of mixed ethnicity, Chinese and Vietnamese, 2nd generation in the U.S. The other is White of Scottish, French, German, English, and Czech ancestry, 12th generation in the U.S. We are deeply committed to personal and transformative healing—physical, emotional, and spiritual—within our different communities. This can take the form of eating well, active listening, understanding impact over intention, seeing and acting beyond identity politics, and taking a long view of history. We have a strong commitment to equity that we practice in our everyday lives.
We are deeply committed to reducing our chemical and fragrance exposures, and opt out of using harmful body, hair, beauty, or household cleaning products. Eating well and wholesome is important to us, so we cook upwards of 95% of our food, eating as much locally grown and organic whole foods as financially feasible. We shop at the local food cooperative in Seattle, directly from farmers, or from the neighborhood farmer’s market as the norm rather than the exception. We love to ferment and preserve, and we don’t throw away food. These are practices we will continue with the children. As part of the family, we plan to also raise ducks and goats and have a household garden.
We are looking for kind, thoughtful, caring and responsible queer, transgender, or gay people who are of Southeast and/or East Asian descent (including mixed race folks who are also of Southeast and/or East Asian descent), who would like to be a known donor for children, but not a legal or financial parent (i.e. willing to and comfortable with forfeiting all legal, financial, and parental roles and responsibilities). We are seeking a known donor because we believe it is important for the children to have the opportunity to know who helped bring them into the world. We would like the donor to have a familial/platonic relationship with us and the children. We are looking for someone who has an interest to connect with the children once a year as they are growing up, and be part of the extended friend and family support network. We are definitely excited about the possibility of additional supportive grandparents, aunts and uncles! For this to work, it is important for our known donor to be out to their family. We are also looking for someone who is feminist, and who would be excited to advocate for and support our role as lesbian parents. There are many possibilities for what the known donor(s)’ roles could be and what their role could look like.
