Other Info: I am a professional in my early 30s who is interested in becoming a parent in the medium-term future. My day job is in software but I have enjoyed productive sidelines as a transit advocate, assistive technology researcher, and novelist. I would describe myself as thoughtful, cooperative, persistent, and trustworthy — and those are the qualities that I would hope to instill in a child in my care, more than any particular inclinations towards hobbies, ideologies, etc.

I am also currently in a loving, long-term relationship with someone who does not want to be a parent but is open to (and indeed, originated the idea) of my pursuing a platonic co-parenting arrangement. This simplifies some things while complicating others. I would want her to speak for herself on this, but as an opening statement: we are very aligned on this, very interested in putting down roots in NYC, and open to different cohabiting configurations. We have an very stable and communicative bond based on a deep and abiding friendship as much as romantic love.

This would be the most serious decision of my life and I do not intend to take it lightly at all; I expect that it will take years for my co-parent and I to find and mutually vet each other. That's why I'm starting now.
