10 things about me and co-parenting…
1. I've just joined this site, and I'm interested in exploring the co-parenting route to becoming a mummy. I have really strong family values, and always envisaged having a family of my own. Family genes seem to be good, with several family members delivering completely healthy 'late' babies over the years.
2. I love children, I have lots of friends with kids, and have been very involved in my brother's upbringing (one of the late babies who is now 15). I also have a 2 year old nephew who I adore and regularly spend time with.
3. An operation four years ago left me unable to conceive naturally, but IVF is still a viable option, and this was a route I had been exploring with an ex-partner. However we mutually decided not to start the treatment last year.
4. I have recently been exploring solo options, including adoption, however even with an agency in Scotland it's a very long and complex route to becoming a mummy. I've taken steps to initiate the process, but my first choice is still to 'grow my own' and as it will be at least November before the process properly begins I'm keen to explore this route further first.
5. Actually I'm quite traditional, so my first choice would have been to marry the father :)
6. I would like to be the main carer for the child.
7. As I think it would be difficult to build a relationship with the child from abroad, I feel strongly that the father would be based in the UK.
8. Ideally I'd like to co-parent with someone who would like to be openly involved in bringing up the child. As in someone the child would call 'daddy' and perhaps be part of their extended family.
9. I'd also like the co-parent to be involved in/support some day-to-day decisions and to be actively involved in major milestone events.
10. Health, genes, a strong desire to be a daddy etc. are important, but equally important to me is finding someone I can trust and build a good relationship with for the benefit of the child.
