Life is a beautiful gift and it’s worth the pain. That is why I want children
I am healthy in my lifestyle choices and genetically speaking. I have found no family history of genetic conditions. I have no allergies or medical conditions. My parents did a dna ancestry test; my mums was 50% Irish 30% Scottish and the remainder a mix of Danish, Swedish and northern English. My dads was 45% Irish 30%scottish, the rest Swedish and Norwegian. So I’m prone to sunburn
I eat healthily and I’ve been a keen runner since I was 15. I used to play rugby and football growing up, but just football now.
I’m going to college this August to do a science course that will enable me to go to uni. I want to specialise in organic chemistry. My academic passions also include psychology, philosophy and natural science generally.I’m considering doing an electrician course also.
A lot of who we are is genetic, our passions and abilities are largely genetic.
Environment plays its part but genetics is arguably more important.
Choosing the right genetics for you is a crucial first step. Health is the obvious priority but genetic natural instinctive tendencies should also be available for you to help make your decision.
More details…
Contact with child: I answered that I don’t mind, and I don’t. Would be happy either way.
It’s obviously a big and important decision choosing the right donor. And it’s difficult to make an informed decision by going off what’s written on a website (although it’s a more informed and calculated method than most conceptions). I want to give this all the necessary attention and care that it requires.
Sperm count/quantity and quality matter. (Im no scientist yet) but the fastest sperm out of 40 million is the one that fertilises the egg (now it’s not that simple but it’s true enough). So that sperm is the 1 in 40million. But if the sperm count is higher say 150million that sperm is 1 in 150million. Which is better, more competition is better(it also increases the chance of fertility). There’s simple ways to increase sperm count mainly being healthy and also semen retention, according to Google 2-7 days is best for healthy sperm. Age, testosterone levels etc.
In my opinion something this important, it only makes sense to try to consider everything and optimise anything within your control. And the rest is up to god.
One other thing; I’ve thought about there’s a difference in sperm count and quality between fresh sperm and frozen.
It’s strange that most conceptions don’t involve any planning at all. That’s partly why I think being a donor is a great idea and I’m very keen to be part of it.
Lastly: When I was 19 I got with a girl who told me she was infertile. Turns out she wasn’t. She got pregnant the very first time we had sex. She didn’t realise she was pregnant until about 8 weeks in, so we became a couple but she chose to get an abortion, because her farther was strongly against us keeping it and at the end of the day it’s her decision but it’s a difficult call to make. Was very painful for her and I still feel bad about it
The only positives drawn is that at least now she knows she can have kids and I’m glad to know I can to. We broke up soon after.
My step-dad became infertile in his late 20s after catching mumps. I have a great relationship with him and his own story has made me ever present of the reality of infertility. Don’ leave it too late.
