Hello. We are Alex and Angela. We are a very loving couple who, amongst the multitude of other aspects we have in common, are united in our mutual prejudiced fertility and our wish to have a child of our own. We knew when we fell in love that Angela only has one fallopain tube following a heart-breaking ectopic pregnancy in November 2009 and, following attempts to conceive with his previous partner, tests had revealed Alex had a low sperm count.
At the time we met Angela was single, since following the ectopic pregnancy her previous relationship simply couldn't survive the aftermath. Alex had also not long broken up from his long-term partner with whom he had raised a little girl since she was born. Although she was not his biological child, Alex continued to both support and play an active role as the little girl's dad but the relationship with the mother was extremely tensile. Within ten months the mother had another child and married her new partner, shortly after which Alex was cruelly cut out of his daughter's life and all contact has ceased. Angela also has a thirteen year old son from a previous relationship, who she has raised on her own due to a lack of interest from the boy's father.
Our own individual experiences and sheer devotion to eachother have simply cemented our desire to conceive and raise children together in the loving, mutual circumstances a child should be conceived and raised. However, the simplest of purpose of human existence and that is taken forgranted by so many men and women across the world has is denied to us.
After two years of trying to conceive naturally, we were referred to a fertility clinic who have confirmed Alex's sperm count is extremely low and this is due to a chromosomal disorder. Consequently our only option is assistance via a process known as ICSI, which involves injecting a sperm directly into an egg.
Not only is this process very expensive, the odds of success are not favourable. Furthermore, if a healthy sperm from the few Alex is able to produce can be selected and used to conceive, if the baby is a boy it is almost certain that Alex's condition would be passed on to his son. This is a risk neither of us are prepared to take and are therefore prepared to sacrifice the idea of having a child that is biologically Alex's in favour of donor sperm. We are still considering the ICSI process if Angela is accepted as an egg donor, but in the mean time we are considering donor sperm for unassisted conception.
Our wish to be parents lies in the mercy of the kind of male who is prepared to donate sperm with minimalist involvement in any successful conception and children's upbringing, although this is a matter that can be discussed once compatibility is established.
