Other Info:
A bit about us: We are fairly nerdy introvert homebodies. I work with adults with intellectual/developmental disabilities and my husband is a financial analyst. We are both extremely close with our immediate families, both of whom live nearby. We are Jewish and our history and culture is important to us. We are somewhat observant for familial and cultural reasons, though we are pretty agnostic. My husband likes computers, science, and video games. I like linguistics, drawing, history, and dancing. We both watch a lot of TV- Psych, Futurama, Grimm, and Star Trek Lower Decks are some of our favorites together. :)
Why we’re here: My husband and I are looking for a sperm donor due to infertility. The controversies associated with major sperm banks really put us off from that. The idea of having to put all our trust in a company whose only goal is to make money just doesn't seem right. The industry is unregulated and you end up with problems like huge numbers of siblings, companies lying and changing records, potential health problems, overall poor/lack of communication, etc.
What we’re looking for: We prefer an ethnically Jewish donor but we know that may not be possible. We’d like a donor without a family history of diabetes, anxiety disorders, and autism, though we’re open to a little flexibility with medical history. There are, of course, no guarantees, but we want to set up our child for success as much as possible.
We value intelligence, critical thinking, and a general thirst for knowledge. It doesn’t really matter what you’re interested in; what matters is that you enjoy learning and continue to learn throughout your life.
Our donor will have an enormous impact on the rest of our lives. We will be our child's parents but we also understand the child's need to know where they come from. We want to find someone we can trust, someone who shares our values, who understands and respects our desires, someone with whom we are comfortable having this special relationship, and maybe someone we can call a friend.
