Hi, I am a lesbian sole mother to a 5 year old, looking to expand my family, we have a unique family situation as my son's father (my ex partner) passed away in 2014. For this reason, as well as my sexual identity I am seeking a donor type arrangement. I am also looking into fertility clinics at this time.
Information about us: My son will be starting school next year and I feel ready to have another child given that I will have the time to dedicate to the baby. As I have been through this before, I am fully aware of the time and care that is required from a newborn baby and have not wanted to go ahead with a second child until now.
About me/us: I am a social worker, working for a not-for-profit foster care agency within Sydney. Child safety and protection are very important to me and I strive to raise my child in an authoritative manner which allows open communication (no physical discipline). Social justice, environmental issues, arts, music and culture are important to me. We are definitely not the type of family who is trying to 'keep up with the Jones's. We live our life in our own unique way, we are financially happy and stable but do not seek material wealth as markers of happiness, that said we are well off.
I am an easy going open minded person who loves to have a laugh and enjoy life for what it's worth.
About my parenting style:
I believe in vaccination, breastfeeding and plan to home birth with a registered midwife. My first child has been raised vegetarian since birth and enjoys a very healthy nutritious diet - I plan to do the same with my second child. I am not a perfect parent but I am to do the best can for my kid/s. Additionally, my education in social work has been an asset to my parenting.
About our lifestyle/home: we live in a big beautiful house which we share with responsible friends whom are mostly in their mid thirties, our home is an intentional share house which I set up back in 2015 with a friend. Since then we have all worked together to create a supportive environment for everyone. My housemates are yoga teachers, and not for profit workers (there is 3 of them) and they all share a close relationship with my son.
Our home is directly overlooks parkland and cycle paths. In this house my son and I have a big studio down stairs which gives us space and privacy whilst having the support and care of community. We share this space and will do so with the baby, we believe in close family contact for ultimate parent/child attachment.
The neighborhood we are in in gorgeous, it's opposite a daycare centre and wonderful school. In this neighborhood we enjoy a great quality of life, playing in the park and riding our bikes. We also have a grassy backyard with compost, flowers and space to play around.
What I'm looking for: research says that the most important quality for a donor conceived child is knowing where they come from as early as possible. I am seeing an open donor relationship that can involve some contact, however I am not seeking a full on Dad here. This should be seriously noted as I plan to take my social work interstate and possibly overseas at some point and time. As I have co parented before, I have seen the best and worst of sharing children. My donor would need to be someone who is willing to sign a legal contract, would not be named on the birth certificate but would be willing to perhaps play an uncle like role. Honesty to the child is paramount.
Please seriously consider this as I do not someone donating and then deciding to be Dad down the track. I am a very independent sole parent and am seeking a supportive non parental relationship.
